30.05.2008 False Croup
False Croup is an acute narrowing of larynx, developing as a result of mucous hypostasis. Croup is a complication of various virus infections and other infectious diseases (measles, scarlet fever, etc.).
Children under 3 years of age usually have this comlication due to the structure of their larynx.
Now some words about the symptoms. Suddenly, usually at night, child may have rough cough, husky voice, lips cyanosis, accompanied by excitement and nervousness, and in more complicated cases by dormancy due to the lack of oxygen.
What parents should do? First of all call a doctor (you can call an AMC doctor for emergency care). While waiting for the doctor try to calm the child down. Use Nasivin, warm bath for feet.
However, larynx narrowing may be caused not only by virus infections. AMC Pediatricians will quickly make a diagnosis and start the necessary treatment, in case of necessity will offer short-term hospitalization together with parents.
